Fire Emergency Evacuation Drill for the Fall Semester Conducted in Student Community, IC

September 18, 2026

To further enhance students' fire safety awareness and improve the emergency response and evacuation capabilities of faculty and students in the event of a sudden fire, the International College (IC) of Xiamen University organized a fire emergency evacuation drill for students at the Boxue and Nangying dormitory areas at noon on September 16. The drill was jointly planned by the Campus Security Office, the Logistics Group, and the International College, with support from the Fire Brigade of Zhangzhou Development Zone. All students of the International College participated in the drill.

Upon the sounding of the fire alarm, each dormitory building swiftly activated its emergency response. Under the guidance of resident counselors, security personnel, and student leaders, students responded calmly and followed instructions, strictly adhering to fire evacuation protocols—covering their noses and mouths with wet towels, staying low, and evacuating quickly and orderly along designated routes. Floor guides remained at their posts, checking room by room to ensure no one was left behind. Meanwhile, upon receiving the alarm, the local fire rescue station and the campus mini fire station arrived at the fire scene immediately and promptly commenced firefighting and rescue operations. Within just a few minutes, all participating students had safely evacuated to the designated assembly area, where counselors and staff promptly conducted headcounts and verified the situation. The entire process was intense yet orderly and well-organized.

After the drill, Zhan Weifeng, Director of the Security Office of Zhangzhou Campus, delivered a summary and review. He stated that fire safety is a top priority in campus security work and expressed the hope that students would take this drill as an opportunity to firmly establish a "safety first" mindset, familiarize themselves with escape routes, master self-rescue and mutual-rescue skills, and truly take preventive measures against potential risks.

This fire evacuation drill effectively tested the emergency evacuation plans and organizational coordination capabilities of multiple campus departments, accumulating practical experience for properly responding to emergencies and strengthening the campus safety defense line.
